Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Network Engineer 2 based in the Washington DC-Baltimore Area. The Network Engineer 2 will design, implement, and manage complex network systems ensuring their security, performance, and scalability. Responsibilities include configuring and troubleshooting network hardware and software, conducting network performance analysis, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and staying up-to-date with the latest technologies to ensure operational excellence and security of network infrastructures.
Responsibilities:
- Design / Support of virtual learning network infrastructure sufficient to meet special requirements for each course.
- Design / Support of classroom network infrastructure sufficient to meet special requirements of each classroom course.
- Troubleshooting of network issues and recommendation of network modification to optimize performance while adhering to all relevant security policies.
- Implementing STIG guidance, hardening and maintaining network systems.
- Assisting other team members in their Primary areas of responsibilities.
Network Engineer must be able to successfully demonstrate the following capabilities:
- Experience with networking technologies such as routers, switches, encryption, and firewalls.
- Experience with TCP/IP networking, networking architecture, computer and operating systems.
- Experience with Implementing security measures, managing firewalls, and monitoring for threats to protect data and infrastructure.
- Knowledge of installing security patches, updates, and service packs to keep systems secure and up-to-date.
- Familiarity with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of Windows-based and Linux server infrastructure
- A working knowledge of both Linux platforms.
- A working knowledge of Windows and Windows Servers.
- Experience with Cisco hardware and operating systems.
- Experience with packet capture and network analysis tools is required.
- Experience with monitoring solutions and datacenter operations required.
General Office environment: The work environment is fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadline pressures. The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with other members of the staff as well as individuals across the Company and Customers.

Minimum Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred. Additional years of experience can be substituted for a degree.
Minimum Years of Experience:
- Eight (8) years progressively responsible network systems engineering experience is required.
- Four (4) years of experience can be substituted for a degree for total of twelve (12) years of experience.
- Familiarity with packet capture and network analysis tools is required.
- Knowledge of monitoring solutions required.
- VMware, vSphere, and vCenter experience is strongly desired.
Required Certifications:
- Certification required, at a minimum, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) as well as SEC+CE or equivalent (DoD 8570 IAT Level II Certification is required).
Preferred:
- Experience with network security principles, threats, and vulnerabilities.
- Experience with Palo Alto hardware and operating systems (Level 2).
- Understanding of Software Defined Networking & Micro-segmentation
- Understanding of VXLAN and logical networking concepts.
- Experience with Atlassian Tools (Confluence, Jira, Bitbucket, etc.).
- Skilled in diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues related to servers, networks, and applications.
- Knowledge of coding languages for scripting (e.g. Python, Perl).
- Awareness of data center operations and network-based server systems.
- Ability to work flex and overtime hours with some weekend hours expected (for maintenance).
- Ability to solve problems quickly and completely; analytical problem-solving skills; adept at root-cause analysis and mitigation.
- Proven ability to work independently while being conscious of how your work interacts with that of others.
- Possess drive, enthusiasm, and attention to detail.
- Effective communication, writing, documentation, and requirements gatherings skills are needed to be effective in this role for working with other members of the Team and with the Customer to meet the requirements of the program.
